HoLEP is a prostate surgery which is performed by inserting the Holmium laser probe into the urethra. Although it is a closed method, prostate is totally removed similar to the open prostate surgery. Spinal anesthesia is usually sufficient for this procedure. HoLEP method is employed for treatment of the benign prostatic hyperplasia. The benign prostatic hyperplasia is a frequent health problem in men. One of every two men older than 60 is diagnosed with the benign prostatic hyperplasia. The condition is manifested by many complaints, such as frequent urination, and the quality of life decreases. The condition can be managed with medications in early stages. On the other hand, surgical methods are considered when the prostate gland enlarges. The enlargement is a benign condition or in other words, it is not a cancer. However, a patient can have a combination of cancer and benign prostatic hyperplasia. The doctor evaluates the patient from two perspective to make the diagnosis. The HOLEP is a novel method that uses laser surgery for surgical treatment of the diseases that originate from or involve the prostate gland.
